A double exposure of two Palmetto fan leaves fills the entire tall composition, their sharp pointed fronds radiating and crossing in every direction to create a bold, explosive energy. Delicate orchids are visible in the background, softly layered beneath the dramatic fronds and adding a gentle romantic contrast to the graphic boldness of the leaves. The tones are a deep, moody blend of midnight navy and soft powder blue, with dark near-black shadows cutting between the fronds where the two exposures overlap.

Created using the cyanotype process, two chemicals are hand mixed and applied to watercolor paper, real botanicals are placed on top and exposed to natural sunlight, then washed by hand to reveal the image. Each piece is completely one-of-a-kind original artwork.

This cyanotype measures 11 x 30 inches and is created on high-quality watercolor paper. Each piece is handmade by me and completely one-of-a-kind. It comes unframed, allowing you to choose the perfect frame for your space.

My recommendation for framing this piece is a shadowbox frame in white or natural wood, with a 2- to 3-inch mat. I suggest floating the artwork, meaning it’s mounted slightly above the mat board, fully showcasing its beautiful deckled edges and adding depth.
