Sweeping fern fronds fill the entire tall composition, flowing diagonally across the piece in a beautiful rhythmic pattern. A single gold maple leaf sits at the centre, glowing warmly against the deep navy background like a treasure nestled in the forest floor. A small dragonfly and star-shaped botanical are visible nearby, adding quiet delicate details. Soft horizontal brushstrokes weave across the whole piece, adding a gentle sense of movement like wind through the fronds. The tones are a rich deep midnight navy and soft powder blue throughout.

Created using the cyanotype process, two chemicals are hand mixed and applied to watercolor paper, real botanicals are placed on top and exposed to natural sunlight, then washed by hand to reveal the image. Each piece is completely one-of-a-kind original artwork.

This cyanotype measures 11 x 30 inches and is created on high-quality watercolor paper. Each piece is handmade by me and completely one-of-a-kind. It comes unframed, allowing you to choose the perfect frame for your space.

My recommendation for framing this piece is a shadowbox frame in white or natural wood, with a 2- to 3-inch mat. I suggest floating the artwork, meaning it’s mounted slightly above the mat board, fully showcasing its beautiful deckled edges and adding depth.
