This cyanotype is my take on a tree of life. The trunk and branches are created from the smooth outline of an Elkhorn fern, giving the tree a natural, organic shape. Around it, maple leaves, ginkgo leaves, and small star shaped flowers drift through the composition, settling between the branches in a quiet, floating way.
Hand-brushed waves move through the background in soft lines, carrying different tones of deep blue and lighter teal. Those layered blues and painterly strokes create a gentle sense of motion, almost like the whole scene is breathing. The mix of clean silhouettes, flowing waves, and shifting color keeps the piece calm, balanced, and full of life.
This cyanotype measures 22 x 30 inches and is created on high-quality watercolor paper. Each piece is handmade by me and completely one-of-a-kind. It comes unframed, allowing you to choose the perfect frame for your space.
My recommendation for framing this piece is a shadowbox frame in white or natural wood, with a 2- to 3-inch mat. I suggest floating the artwork, meaning it’s mounted slightly above the mat board, fully showcasing its beautiful deckled edges and adding depth.
