This cyanotype presents a beautiful Tree of Life, crafted with a trunk and branches that resemble the graceful Elkhorn fern. The leaves surrounding the tree feature an assortment of familiar forms, including aspen, ginkgo, cottonwood, maple, and star-shaped flowers. The scene is layered with flowing wave patterns, creating a sense of movement that feels both grounded and fluid. The deep blues and gentle streaks of lighter shades bring a feeling of serenity, symbolizing the balance and unity of life. Each cyanotype is a one-of-a-kind original, crafted from leaves I've gathered from around the world, making each piece like a journal of my travels. Made on watercolor paper, each artwork has my signature on the front and back. The cyanotype process involves soaking the paper in water, sometimes multiple times, which can create small tears. I've reinforced these spots with tape when needed, though they won’t show once framed. This process uses sunlight to create natural shapes in rich blue tones, giving each piece its own unique character.
